Stucco Project, Part Nine

October 10

The kivas in the Living Room and the West End Den are almost complete. The last element to be applied will be stucco. These will be very traditional fireplaces, but Steve has a trick up his sleeve to make them really beautiful. You and I just have to be patient…

The oiled bronze door hardware is being installed. This hardware matches the bathroom fixtures and adds a rustic feel to these strong doors. The door handles and locks will match, of course, and they are on the way. There is a device that drills the holes for the handles and locks. Can’t wait to see it in action!

The elastomeric material has been ordered along with the color that will be added to it: Sierra Tan, remember? If all goes well weather-wise, this will begin to be applied next week. There is rain in the forecast, so stay tuned!

Once the door trim is done, linseed oil will be applied to all of the new wood in the house. Over time, the wood will age to a lovely dark honey color. I’ve seen examples of this in Steve’s other houses. Cabinets, walls, doors–all a beautiful rich color. I like the raw wood but look forward to this transformation as the wood and the linseed oil age together…

Don’t forget to click on the first image so you can see the kivas in the Big Gallery!

Fall is definitely on the way. This is our first regular hike since Bella injured her paw. She is fine now. In fact, she chased two deer and ran through the desert like the hunter she is! She came back pretty quickly, though. Those deer bounded away so fast. They seemed to have springs in their legs!

  1. It’s so nice to read your way of telling this story, and see your enthusiasm. All litlle details you let us know with your pics.
After your house is finished, I’ll miss your story.
Stella, you have to write a novel. A romantic one with lot of adventures so you can describe all scenes. I know this comment is not for here but …

    Go Ahead!
I keep on calling you Stella. I hope you don’t mind.

    • Verónica, you are so nice to visit this blog. I really appreciate it!

I will miss telling the story of this house, too. However, I will be very happy for it to be finished so I can live in it!

About writing a novel: probably not. But thanks for the compliment. 🙂

And you can always call me Stella. That is how you know me.
