July 21
A blissfully blue sky Sunday. The trek up to the mountain was a joy after days of dark clouds and rain. We need the rain here, so it is hard to be grumpy about it. Still, the blue blue sky makes one’s heart sing. Oh yes it does.
technical
- So nice to see the blue sky again!
- The front door
- This door will be stained “Antique Mesquite.” Rustic and strong.
- Stucco mesh is making its way around the house
- The smaller netting is metal lath. After the mesh and lath are in place, the stucco itself will begin to be applied.
- Remember that big roll of stucco mesh? Almost gone now.
- The edge of the roof is getting more flashing too.
- It is a complicated process, requiring lots of cutting and measuring.
- West End Ramada door
- Interior of front door
- Bella likes the door window.
- We are at almost 6,000 feet–high altitude!
- This handle is actually a temporary one.
- There is more variation in the colors of the salt cedar than I originally thought.
- Colorful!
personal
- The “backyard” is so green now after all the rain.
- Azure skies and fluffy white clouds are a welcome sight!
- The rain encourages stuff to grow everywhere.
- Don’t sit down too long or something will grow under you!
- Still some rain in those clouds, but it is hot and for once I am glad.
- We walk the old walk today. The new road is being worked on.
- The cattle stay one step ahead of us.
- Flying low
- We veer off the road to hike over to that rock outcropping I have viewed from afar for so long.
- Bella likes it up high.
- The long drought has left its mark.
- Even in death, this tree is beautiful.
- Chollas and sotols are growing up here.
- And this!
- It is growing all around the dead cholla stalks.
- No idea what it is so I’ll have to look it up.
- The color really stands out.
- Xmas colors!
- I’ve decided that Bella is actually part mountain lion–she loves to look down from the heights.
- This is a new vantage point.
- That raven is flying high now.
- Hey, Bella! I love it up here too!
