July 16
All technical today because it is raining. Yay!
Don’t worry. Bella and Niles get plenty of exercise splashing through the water around the building site and tracking mud into the house. I spend most of my time outside wiping off my camera. The rain is really a misty drizzle right now but thunderstorms are anticipated tonight. And possibly flash flooding. Always exciting out here in Far West Texas!

The exterior window trim process has begun. Inside the house, work on the interior window trim is complete and the linseed oil application is underway. Trim for untrimmed wood fixtures–closets, linen closets, shower stalls, etc.–is being measured and cut. And the big garage door should be here this week. It is an automatic garage door. I’ve never had an automatic garage door. Heck, I’ve never had a garage I could park a car in! This is magic.
- Exterior window trim is underway
- The felt and the mesh are attached…
- …and then folded over to be attached to the wall.
- This makes for a seamless window trim that will be covered by stucco.
- Rain on the roof!
- Just think: someday this water will be going to a better place.
- Which is good because…
- there is a LOT of it!
- First step in exterior window trim is this foil flashing.
- See how it binds the window to the adobe blocks?
- And also to the wood trim above.
- It is a very wet, gray, cool, muddy day–wonderful!
- I do not yet know what kinds of plants or grass might be here, but I’m glad there will be water.
- My temporary bedroom door.
- The blue tape is protecting the window frame.
- Ouch! Taking off the film seems like a hazardous endeavor!
- Once the exterior windows are completed, the stucco project can begin.
- Maintenance room on the other side of the West End Den TV alcove.
- West End Master Suite windows are done.
- Getting ready for tile in the bathroom!
- Linseed oil application–by hand. Painstaking work.
- Living Room interior window trim is done now.
- Bella says: “Ah, a door. Good.”
- But what’s with this blue tape?
- The inside of my temporary bedroom door–keeps the water out!
