June 27

The Pella windows arrived yesterday afternoon and were installed by the time we made it up to the mountain today! I think there are 20 of them. Once installed, interior trim has to be applied, along with insulation. On the exterior, they will be screwed in and then metal lath will be attached as well. I will show this process once it begins.

These windows are a big part of the passive solar process in the house. They can be opened in different ways. The blinds are set between the double panes and can be opened and closed, raised and lowered, depending on the light and heat requirements of any given moment. The Pella windows are very functional and also have a clean look to their design–plain wood and glass goes well with this handmade house!

  1. This is getting more exciting every day! With each posting it is closer to being a “real house.” And so beautiful. The interior bricks and wood and really gorgeous.
