May 17 and May 19
A Friday and a Sunday. No work on Friday, so nothing new to show you on the house front. But a walk in the 95 degree heat provided new things to enjoy, even on the same old road.
And it is really not 95 degrees in the shade, but I thought you would be impressed that we all went hiking despite the heat!

May 17
- Friday Cloud Dancers
- Almost like musical notes
- Prolific berries
- Bella thinks this berry bush is beautiful (yes, alliteration is a fav of mine)
- It is a sotol cactus rocket!
- There are so many suddenly appearing now.
- This looks like a corn stalk by Tim Burton. Blowing smoke rings.
- Mmmmm. Yummy (not).
- Bella seeks the shade
- A cholla close-up: so delicate but don’t touch!
- Some ancient remnant of something–like a petrified giraffe leg…
- Yucca? What?
- Spring flowers are reviving due to the rain
- Gentle and bright
- Cholla with dead spots. I wonder what happens to the live ends with the dead spots in the middle?
- Bees! And pond scum.
- Bella will seek shade anywhere
- I found us a juniper tree. I think. Anyway, we can all sit under it.
- Actually quite pleasant in the shade
- Something new that reminds me of holly
- Looks like desert more than usual today…I believe the white spots in the distant center are McDonald Observatory.
- Double sotol!
- Like markers to some special spot
- This one looks more like a walking stick (eventually)
- So different from the one that looks like corn…
- Speaking of Tim Burton…
- Yuccas all seem to decline in a different way…
May 19
- Hard to find any shade here…
- But Bella still tries.
- This mesquite tree is doing better though
- And its branches are strong.
- Purple flowers are staging a comeback!
- And the sotol just keeps reaching for the sky.
- Yuccas are becoming odder and odder…
- Reaching the end of their spring.
- Sotols are everywhere now
- While the yuccas are on their last legs
- The last of the pickles
- On the road home, what is this??!
- What will these blooms be like?
- Another desert mountain mystery
