One never knows what one might find at the building site, especially if one decides to get up early and head out before the weather heats up! One, in this case, is actually three, of course, but you know what I mean…
And what did we find? The first part of the ceiling in place in the West End of the house! This wood is called “decking.” Hence the title of this posting.
😉
Remember to click on the first picture to open up the Big Gallery so you can see everything!
- The garage door thingy
- Yes, the garage door is going to be BIG
- The double row of adobe blocks is in place so this garage is done
- Loving the look of the Sitting Room corbels and vigas…but why is it dark on the right?
- Remember: the outside of the house will be covered in stucco…
- Moon shot.
- OMG! That’s why the west area looked dark. The ceiling is in place!
- I love the pattern of the wood
- The ceiling wood is called “decking” and it is cut as necessary to achieve the slanted pattern in each room.
- This ceiling is a surprise! It happened really fast.
- A better representation of the true colors
- The gray streaks in the wood and the knots give it character.
- Decking at the back of the house. Steve is measuring vigas to be cut so they all line up perfectly.
- Vigas now all even and perfect
- Arnold, the amazing wood worker, chops off the excess bits
- Cord wrangling
- Steve is keeping an eye on things. He sees a patio below that only exists in his imagination at the moment…
- Back of the garage, almost completely done now
- The small window is my office. I don’t think I am going to spend much time in there… 🙂
- Can you see the texture in the wood? This is rustic, sturdy stuff!
- But also quite elegant, in a rustic, sturdy way…
- Laying the last adobe blocks in my bedroom

personal
So, one thinks that starting out on a hike around 9:00 am is going to be an improvement over hiking in the mid-afternoon, but one is wrong. So terribly wrong. Just as hot, just as many ants, and just as dusty. But still wonderful.
- So new and green
- The ants are out now, marching to and fro. Bella gets bitten fairly often but she deals with it more easily than she did at first.
- The desert, trying to go “green.”
- Still some purple flowers around, but not as many…
- The cactus and trees are sparse but vigorous and they lead to a lovely vista…
- One of my “life and death” portraits…
- The different shades of green and textures always catch my eye.
- It IS Spring, right? Ok. I am TRYING to sprout some leaves here. Give me a minute…
- See? I’m making progress. You gotta be patient.
- But you have to admit I am very interesting even without leaves…
- Even before noon, it is hot. Niles is happy, though. He no longer must wear the “collar of shame.”
wow, lovely ceiling!
