For a long time, the work that was being done on the house was either completely invisible or totally obvious. The building of the footings and the foundation seemed to take forever. Then suddenly it was done. The laying of the adobe blocks has been a long process and now it, too, is done (almost). These days, the work is exciting! New stuff is happening all of the time and I am constantly surprised by the rate of progress and also the very cool elements that are being added to the house. All of this work is leading to the ceiling, of course…
- A man lost in his work
- Those last two rows of adobe blocks are a killer!
- Raise high the roofbeams!
- Sitting down on the job–in a good way!
- I am inside the house. What are they working on, I wonder?
- Done! Someone toss that loose brick down, please!
- Waiting to become the last two rows here.
- Rain in the Living Room! I guess this is to be expected when you do not have a ceiling…a drawback, I admit.
- Left side: done. Right side: on the “to do” list.
- A rain puddle in the garage
- Bella considers drinking it.
- Spyder in the bathroom!
- Vigas+Corbel+Adobe Blocks+Concrete+View=Living Room!
- Next to last row–waiting.
- This! This is what they were working on–the corbels outside the Sitting Room.
- I forgot all about this! Steve says the black support will be hidden by the stucco.
- I love these details so much…
personal
Finally, a hike! The Purple Road is a memory now. New plants are popping up to replace the lovely spring flowers that seem to have run out of steam…
- The Invasion of the Yucca Snatchers
- New yuccas, yes? Is this where the pods go?
- Chihuahuan Raven in a tree making so much racket we all stopped to see what the fuss was about…then it flew off in a huff.
- Ugly, painful, and gorgeous
- I am sadly illiterate about cacti. What is this? I love the yellow squashy blooms.
- And now I know the origin of these beautiful pieces of gray “wood” that are lying around everywhere…
- Dead AND Alive: Schrödinger’s Cat in Action
- Little Shop of Horrors
- What was the name of that big plant?
- I love my new camera
- Bella and Niles trudge along while I stop to capture the view. I don’t think they care about the view very much…
- …but I do. That is Mitre Peak on the right.
- More death and life and yellow squashy blossoms–with rocks.
- Close-up
- Something new!
- And you never know what you will see on the way home…
One of my favorite titles! And that life-from-death cactus is a cholla, as in choiya.

I knew you would enjoy that tip o’ the hat to Salinger. My other favorite title of his is “For Esme, With Love and Squalor.” Not quite sure I can find a way to use that, though… Thanks to you and Wayne for the cactus lesson!
