April 22
Monday was a big surprise. I assumed I would be seeing more vigas being set into place and more adobe blocks being laid. I did not expect to see the surprise in the Living Room!

- The Monumental Living Room
- We’ve got corbels on the left, the right, and in the middle.
- Just as gorgeous as the one on the porch!
- Sitting Room on the left, Kitchen on the right, on the far right is the Dining Room
- Do we really want a ceiling?
- Steve says these baby posts can be firewood. I am thinking: coffee table!
- I obviously cannot get over the fact that these posts and corbels are in the Living Room!
- I love the the space between: “The space between / Your heart and mine / Is a space we’ll fill with time.”
- And they fill that space with a viga!
- Notice the dovetail joint, as Wayne pointed out in his comment earlier.
- It takes two to do this tango!
- Steve observes. He wants this to be perfect. He will be eating dinner here someday…
- Waiting for the other viga
- Pounding in the rebar to make this whole thing secure
- Maybe just a smidgen over this way…
- Future coffee table
- Wood to create the wall between my bath and my office. Beautiful!
personal
This was our first hike in a week. It was wonderful to get back on the ranch road. Odd weather has taken its toll, though, and some plants are under stress due to the cold. Others are doing just fine, as you will see. Bella and Niles were glad to be out and about again but it was really hot. We made it down to the first pen/water trough as usual but the hike back was tough. This is good training. It will only get hotter as Spring turns into Summer.
- It has been cold and then hot but nothing affects these little flowers
- Mesquite bushes are going to town!
- Bright as the sun
- Those dead empty limbs are now full of life
- Somehow this looks edible but I would not take a chance on it…
- These look like sage leaves but…
- Strange new berries…
- What are they? I love them.
- Looks like we have drunk all the claret cups…
- Now they look like red hot chili peppers!
- It’s a hot day to be exploring
- One last springtime tableau
- Then we get our butts in gear for the hike home.
now THAT is a biiiiiiiiiiig living room….
…where I plan to do a lot of biiiiiiiig living!
